Harlow Playhouse requires two hosts to provide excellent customer service at this increasingly busy and important mid-scale regional venue.

Harlow Playhouse houses two theatre venues and three studios, to include the recently launched Studio 3 Aerial Studio home to in-house company Studio 3 Aerial Academy.  The Playhouse has a full annual programme of events both on-site and at external locations. In addition to this, it is home to various resident Performing Arts companies including The Pauline Quirke Academy, Hip Hop Pop, Harlow Ballet and the Nationally acclaimed inclusive Theatre Group Razed Roof, and is rapidly gaining a reputation as a regional centre for excellence. 

Harlow Playhouse is proud to produce its annual Pantomime in-house with growing attendance year on year, rapidly excelling box office targets. Alongside this Harlow Playhouse works with exciting new artists across the subsidised sector to create and develop new work, ensuring engagement with the diverse population and audiences of Harlow and surrounding areas.  

You will be able to contribute to the efficient delivery of ticket bookings and the efficient operation of the Café Bar. You must also be able to contribute to stimulating ticket sales.

You must have experience of directly dealing with customers in a sales-based environment and possess good basic IT knowledge.

An ability to work well under pressure is a must, as is a good telephone manner and an ability to show initiative.

    • 28 hours per week, variable working from Monday – Sunday including evenings (banking 22 minutes per week, to be used at an alternative time of the year).
    • £12,584.30 - £12,791.20 per annum

    • 18.75 hours per week, variable working from Monday – Sunday including evenings (banking 15 minutes per week, to be used at an alternative time of the year).
    • £8,426 - £8,564.50 per annum

Technician (Lighting), £21,863 - £22,936 per annum 

Harlow Playhouse is a leading creative hub and venue in the East of England. Housing two well equipped auditoria, rehearsal spaces, dance studios and a specialised aerial studio. We aim to provide enjoyable cultural experiences for everyone, working in partnership to support healthier, happier and safer communities; and to stimulate opportunity, creativity and innovation around us.

We provide a programme of quality music, comedy, spoken word, dance, and circus arts events across our 400-seat and 120-seat theatres, as well as other reach-out locations, and provide space and support to many artists, groups and companies throughout the year.

Harlow Playhouse is recruiting a Lighting Technician to be part of the technical team assisting in the backstage responsibilities of running this increasingly busy venue. The emphasis of this role is towards all aspects of Lighting to support our varied programme. 

Responsible to the Technical Manager, duties will include maintaining backstage areas and equipment, operating lighting and sound, liaising with incoming companies and organisations, assisting get-ins and get-outs and the smooth running of performances. This is a key role in the venue and a great opportunity for candidates who wish to develop their skills whilst working in a creative and diverse presenting house with a wide-ranging programme.

Knowledge of technical theatre is required for this role and the ideal candidate will have experience programming EOS family consoles and be able to rig, cable and focus lanterns.

Our busy Cafe Bar requires additional casual support.

You will be able to contribute to the efficient delivery of ticket bookings and the efficient operation of the Cafe Bar. You must also be able to contribute to stimulating ticket sales.

You must have experience of directly dealing with customers in a sales-based environment and possess good basic IT knowledge.

An ability to work well under pressure is a must, as is a good telephone manner and an ability to show initiative.

Although previous experience of working with ticketing software is an advantage, this is not essential and full training will be provided.

Casual Duty Front of House Manager, £10.29 per hour 

The Playhouse requires casual Duty Front of House Managers for shows that primarily are evening and weekend but can occasionally be daytime.

The Duty Front of House Manager is the senior member of staff responsible for the Front of House during performances. The position involves supervising staff and volunteer ushers, and liaising with visiting companies regarding programme and merchandise sales. The Duty Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Health and Safety of audiences.

Ideally you should have management or supervisory experience, preferably in a leisure or entertainment venue and proven ability to provide a high standard of customer care. You will hold a personal licence and basic certificate in first aid or be prepared to undertake the necessary training.

Harlow Playhouse is looking to expand its team of experienced casual technicians to help with the backstage responsibilities of running this increasingly busy venue. You will be working with people who have an established reputation as one of the best and most customer focused teams in the country.

Responsible to the Technical Manager, duties will include assisting ‘get-ins’ and ‘get-outs’, Lighting, Sound or Flys operation and Stage Management.

Knowledge of technical theatre is essential to this role and the ideal candidate will have experience of working backstage in a theatre environment or have completed a recognised technical theatre qualification.
